Products and materials
Our products are designed based on principles of functionality, durability, and affordability. We are proud of our timeless, Scandinavian design and look – and genuine leather remains our preferred choice of material.
Leather is a natural material that is extremely durable with the correct care and maintenance. If you take good care of your still nordic product it will last a lifetime – and gain that beautiful signature leather patina. Every skin and every product is unique – and we love the various and individual products with different scars, structures, and tones. That is the charm of genuine leather!
The leather used in our products derive from animals and tanneries in India. It is a clear requirement from our side that all leather used in our products must be a bi-product from the meat industry and that no animal is bred and slaughtered exclusively for the fashion industry. We do not accept leather from exotic or endangered species.
It is imperative that neither animals, environment nor people suffer from adverse impact in the production of leather for our products. We are members of the Leather Working Group (LWG) which is a global multistakeholder organization that strives to drive improvements in the leather industry and minimize the environmental impact of leather production. The LWG has established an audit protocol, that sets standards and requirements for leather producers’ performance within e.g., water and energy consumption, waste management, air and noise pollution, work environment, chemical management, traceability, and not least restrictions of hazardous chemicals and Chrome VI management. We aim for 100 % of our leather being sourced from LWG-certified tanneries.
The leather used in our products is currently tanned with either the traditional chrome tanning process or with vegetable tanning. In the long term we wish to increase the share of vegetable – or other alternative – tanning, to slowly phase out the Chrome tanning process, limiting our potential negative impact on people and planet.
All zippers used in our products are sourced from YKK, which is a globally recognized zipper supplier with high quality and a focus on sustainability.
The lining in our products is predominantly made of 100 % cotton (organic as well as conventional). We only ever use polyester lining in toiletry bags to enhance the durability of user-friendliness of the bags. We are working on increasing the share of organic cotton, GOTS-certified cotton, and recycled polyester in our products.
